Official Tripawd! (but still tiny)

I have been a little slow with posting updates on Rocket but all has been going great. We now have the official Tripawd uniform and couldn’t be more excited! He looks SO fashionable and we are wearing it on any social occasions. Thanks so much for letting us be part of this awesome group!

Some random thoughts on having a tripawd that is not aware there was ever any other way to get along and one that is so tiny:

-He does not have that “awkward” sort of gait that former 4-leggers seem to have. Some of this is because he knows no better and the other part is being small. He can zoom and outrun the bigger dogs and you would never know about his special condition. Being closer to the ground has advantages.

-He is a monkey!. He can climb and jump anywhere and is often like the ball in a pinball machine. This sometimes makes us a little nervous. I’ve noticed when he jumps off thing, his natural instinct is not to use his front leg but lands first with his two hind legs using his front to take the first stride after landing. Shooter could not do this as his natural way of moving was to try and land using his front leg.

-Rehab is easy for him! Ask him to go over cavaletti poles? No problem – straight, sideways, one leg at a time, he even uses a pole for a chair when waiting for a treat. Balance? Again, no problem! I think his size and different way of moving has created natural core strength. We will continue to work his core just to make sure all stays strong.

-He can run as fast backwards as forwards – I haven’t quite figured this one out yet but it’s interesting to see.

We will try to do better with updates – everyone take care!

  1. ………like the ball in a pinball machine😁😂 Great visual!
Would love to see video of him doing some of his exercises and especially the way he jumps off things. Actually it’s quite brilliant of him to avoid using his front leg and using his back legs instead.

Rocket is just so darn cute! To see him styling his officitripaed “uniform ” has me grinning ear to ear.
Honest to goodness, we always say how cute our Tripawds are …..but this little guy pretty much owns the title OF CUTEST TRIPAWD EVVER!!
Thanks so much for the pupdate. Rocket ALWAYS makes us smile no matter how rotten away we maybe having.
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
PS…..Shhhh…….Shooter, we won’t tell Rocket, but you were definately “cute” tripawd too!

  2. OH Rocket! Look at you Mr. Adorable!

Luanne it’s so cool that you’ve made these observations about how he moves. I think you are so right, that he doesn’t know any better so he’s doing these Tripawd moves that come more naturally to him since he never had that 4th leg to work with. Next time we interview a rehab therapist I’d like to ask them what they think, because we were told a while ago that young who lose a leg have a harder time since they haven’t developed motor skills. But a dog who is born without one is a completely different situation it sounds like. Thank you for the enlightenment!

Don’t feel badly about not posting frequently. It’s always good to hear from you and see how cute Rocket has become. And it’s summer, go enjoy it!

P.S. We have dear friends and Tripawds community members of ours (the Oaktown Pack) who are traveling through Ennis in a week or so. They might stay a night or two. It would be a riot if you guys met up! PM me if you’d like to connect. And if not that’s cool too, we still think you’re pawesome! xoxo

  3. Hi Luanne,
This is crazy but I’m having a hard time getting my post to show up on the one you made about Rockets health challenge. I know this sounds strange, but I’m going to try to make it show up here and hope that you get it. Okay, here goes, here’s the post I was trying to make
“Luanne, when I first read this a bit ago I just couldn’t post. I was soooo shocked to read this and so distraught for you having to go through the nightmare. I kept saying I’ll come back and check in after a few more days and see how things are going..
I’m hoping with all my heart Rocket is stabilized. No matter what though, I know the Cutest Tripawd in the World could not be more loved.
    With love
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
